Watercolor Pallet + New Work

The thing I love about watercolors is that you don't need a lot of colors to paint with. The transparency and the ability to mix colors makes this possible. Cotman Watercolors has about 40 colors (don't quote me on this) and as an art collector (hoarder really) I own every color. I do not use every color. I do like to have a variety as I do tend to fins the right shade and the right color mix. There are only a few colors I use over and over again. I carry these in a set not only to use in my house/studio, but on the go. The colors I use in this set are:

  • Cadmium Yellow Hue
  • Cadmium Red Pale Hue
  • Alizerin Crimson Hue
  • Dioxazine Violet
  • Cerulean Blue Hue
  • Ultramarine
  • Emerald
  • Viridian Hue
  • Raw Sienna
  • Burnt Sienna
  • Raw Umber
  • Payne's Gray
I am not saying to use this set, but to mix and match what you like. I also use black but not often (only when I am painting a character of mine with black hair or clothing)

I decided to take this as a photo when I can get it scanned as my scanner is starting to kill my paintings. I am not too big of fan of this one cause her hair made her head too big.
